We've come a far way Joe Rogan drops some insightful views on video games and where it might go

Escaping Reality I remember not too long ago, several stories in the news following the premiere of the movie "Avatar" by James Cameron. Reports of a large number of people becoming depressed, even suicidal after seeing the movie, suffering from "Post-Avatar Depression". The film depicts a world far away, where all of its inhabitant are interconnected through nature. And the world it presents is a rather beautiful one. Not yet sullied by the hands of mankind, seeking resources wherever they go. Are you suffering from "Post-Avatar Depression"? Yes, I'd like to visit Pandora. Space generally for that matter. Those depressed people, some of whom may have decided to take their own life, in the moment realising they will never be a part of something like it, if they had just waited a few more years. And seen something like we see in this video. It's not the real thing. But it may one day become something tangiable, an interactiv

Here we go! Here's another example of fiction becoming reality. "Matt Mills and Tamara Roukaerts demonstrate Aurasma, a new augmented reality tool that can seamlessly animate the world as seen through a smartphone. Going beyond previous augmented reality, their "auras" can do everything from making a painting talk to overlaying live news onto a printed newspaper." Imagine a place where paintings on the wall becomes alive when we see them. A place where the newspaper you are reading shows video as you turn the page. Where movie posters comes with their own protective dinosaurs. Believe it or not, this is where we are. Recent advances in technology and innovation has opened an entirely new universe to be explored and defined, and the only limitation is our imagination. Fiction is becoming reality. Movies like Back to The Future II(which is pretty darn close to foreseeing most technological/scientific advances before 2015 I might add), Minority Re

Alternatives This very awesome short clip shows an alternate, and potensially future way of merging man and machine, through injection. There are alternate ways of achieving augmented reality in the future. The first obvious way is through glasses. In the future maybe even contact lenses. But the video above shows it becoming possible through some kind of injection which would merge a computer-like interface with the human brain. One could wonder why the use of hand gestures is still necessary if it's already communicating with the brain, but it seems to be the primary process chosen for the current examples of augmented reality being made at this moment, to be released in a few years. So it is understandable that they would use it in a series which seems to depict the beginnings of an augmented reality/brain computer interface era. It is a series on youtube and I will definately take a look through the episodes to see what examples it will show, and pick apart what is a

A New Challenger       http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/09/technology/valve-a-video-game-maker-with-few-rules.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1   In this article Valve speaks about some of their efforts within Augmented Reality. And you also get to read about their workplace and their way forward.   "A DRIVING force behind Valve’s most far-out hardware project, wearable computing, is being led by Michael Abrash, a veteran of technology and game companies who helped Valve get off the ground in the 1990s by licensing its important game software from his employer at the time, Id Software. To Mr. Abrash, glasses that project games in front of players’ eyes are an obvious next step from today’s versions of wearable computers, smartphones and tablets. While Google’s glasses will display texts and video conferences, Valve has greater technical challenges to overcome with augmented-reality games. It has to figure out how to keep stable an image of a virtual object (say,

Augment Me The Eyeborg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW78wbN-WuU Just check this out. This documentary that came from a recent video game called Deus Ex: Human Revolution, shows current real life and potential future examples of human augmentation. Very interesting watch and it features some good renditions of what augmented reality can look like. And a trailer for the movie Cloud Atlas, has finally appeared, and it's not a teaser. It's a near SIX MINUTE TRAILER. And the Directors, are no other than the Wachowski Siblings. The creators of the Matrix Trilogy.

I found it.(Updated) This guy(Ralph OsterHout) is way ahead of me. He is actually making these things right now. Wow! So after posting this I felt obligated to take part of something like this in the future. So after some thinking I've decided to apply for my second year at a 3D Animation Film school(again). I've been through it once before, but as a webstudent. Being very demotivated and lacking in creativity, I failed that class the first time around. And after, I felt as if, that was it. I was done. But I see now that it was an error, and now I'm going to correct it before it becomes a mistake I will regret later in life. I am convinced that this is the future of technology and most media presentation. It might even replace many of the things we take for granted today, like television, computers, cellphones and tablets. It might also bring new genres of media. No more square television set in one corner of every room in t

The Future Is Already Here Dr. Michio Kaku talks on the future, year 2030 Allthough this video lasts an hour and four minutes I strongly recommend you start watch the first ten minutes, even though what I'll be talking about might be further into the video, I predict you will find the talk so interesting that you'll watch it until the end anyway. ;) As he states in this video, "the future of the computer is to disappear". Your files will follow with you, and there will be no need for hard drives, usb, or pockets filled with hardware gadgets. He also mentiones glasses that has full internet capability. You can download any website, watch any movie and send E-mail. They will also recognize people's faces. (Google recently showed this very feature in their promotional video for Project Glass.) The images Dr.Kaku shows of these glasses in 2009 did indeed look like "refugees from Star Trek". "In the future these glasses will be fa

"The Pinnacle Of Innovation" (Updated) It's a hot and lazy day in May, but I'm still writing. Yay =D Stark's helmet sports some impressive AR tech. The Iron Man movies. Great action, but what really impressed me about it is the perfect rendition of what Augmented Reality could do, and how it would look like. (clips further down) All the gestures he uses to control the three-dimensional objects that surrounds him are perfect as well. Some I recognize from tablet technologies displayed at conventions etc. Allthough they are often only used on contact surfaces like touch screens etc. Judging by the review series I found on youtube(posted by tomekw1992 ) , they spent many many hours making these sequences as well as direct an actor how to move and pretend to use the thing, which in real life before they added the effects weren't there at all. But I don't doubt Downey's acting skills was of great help. (There are some

What will the future bring?   The "Back to the Future"-trilogy are truly among the greatest movie trilogies ever made. It goes back in time, but also it moves forward. In the second movie, Marty McFly is sent directly from when he came home in 1985 to the future, 2015. That is three years from now. There are certain things in that movie presented as "the future" that we still don't have. Take the flying cars. We do have that, but they have wings and we're not exactly clogging up the air traffic any time soon. Hoverboards of course. I'd even go for the pink one if I had the chance. And there are things predicted that actually are coming true today in 2012, and as I am not a fortune teller, before 2015 has gone by there is no utter certainty what in the BTF prophecy won't be a reality.  As they land in the future, Marty is given some gear to blend in with the future crowd. A particular piece of clothing that has reac

"Eureka"  Greetings. I think an introduction is in order. So far in life I am an illustrator, 3D-animator, video editor and a thinker. I have come to the conclusion that my level of happiness is dependent on whether I am creating something or not. If I am not creating something, I am simply not happy. Appearantly that means I am creative. And I found it's time I do something about that, thus this blog. This blog, for me, is whatever comes to mind, in order to keep a better overview of my ideas, creations and progress. This blog, for you, can be a perspective into the mind of an honest "right-side" thinker. It will be visual, entertaining and thought-provoking. At least that is my agenda and hopeful impression for you, the reader. Now that the boring blog description is out of the way, let's open up a little. I am a 24 year old man, who lives in Norway. I'm a very visual and animated guy. People that see me, tend to notice that I
