Glitchy augmented reality apps aside, in the world of virtual reality, we are starting to see mighty impressive things. If you have been living under a rock lately, may I introduce you to the Oculus Rift.



The intended use for Oculus Rift is for gaming related applications on PC. But we are seeing extraordinary things being made for it, the following example being one of the best uses I have found of all of them. Be warned, this might not be safe for work, depending on what your work consists of, but I can guess it's something creative, so a nude girl here and there will probably not be a "lose your job"-kind of problem.


In this program you can watch 3D scans of people in high quality models from any angle you like. The 3D people in this video are obviously wearing very little clothes, but that is a better way of really seeing how detailed this models really are. There are not irregular inconsistancies to see at first glance that stops the illusion of having actual living people standing infront of you. They even slightly move a bit to simulate breathing, even though the scans are not recorded in motion.(But that is possible, having seen other videos from these guys).

It's like an art-excibit where people are standing still in different poses, ordered to ignore everything around them, whom you can take full advantage of your curiousity to study as close as you want. Seeing this from the perspective of the Oculus Rift must be an experience you wouldn't want to miss. There are also stereo video of the same models and others on their vimeo channel, so if you don't have a problem crossing your eyes, you can at least get one tiny step closer to the "3D" experience, though I don't think it does the Oculus Rift any justice, after seeing different reaction videos to wearing it across the web.

Many are quick to wonder if there is a market for erotic experiences with the Oculus and I can happily share that it is. Perhaps not with Infinite Realities' demo above, but many are right now trying to find out how such a new interactive genre would work with the Oculus.

As I have said before that Augmented Reality is a shortcut to holograms, virtual reality with the oculus and this kind of 3D scanning technology might be a shortcut across the uncanny valley.

I Needed A Place To Think

If you are a creative person and find yourself in the position that you are not able to create the things that you want, either because how your life is going right now or perhaps your energy is spent most days at an eight hour shift at a job that does not contribute to the things you want to do, you will find a place that will. But sometimes the couch where you often fall asleep to wake up to go right back to work just isn't enough. So today I decided I needed to think. Though I am left alone most of the time and have everything I need to be productive in my work, my home office filled with half worked projects and unfulfilled ideas just doesn't inspire me. There are simply too many distractions in the mess I surround myself with. So I went here. I Found My Canvas - The Oculus Rift

About two weeks ago, on my way home from a particularly hard day at work, I found out a package had arrived for me. My chest was tingling. I was finally about to experience something that so far, not many people had. Time seemed to slow down in the car on the way home. Thoughts were racing.
