The Singularity Relegation

The Singularity is explained often by Ray Kurzweil, inventor, writer, futurist(and more), as a prediction of what outcome our exponentially growing advancement in technologies like computers, genetics, nanotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence will bring. He explains that within a few decades, machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to the Singularity- a technological change so rapid and profound it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history.

If somewhere in all this, a self-aware, conscious, living entity would emerge inside a super intelligent machine, there are already some examples in science fiction, that predicts this would eventually result in war between the human race and a machine intelligence... Or the merging of our two races as we would have spent a lot of time towards the Singularity to make ourselves more and more compatible with them, even down to the biological level. Where our nerves now are capable to directly communicate with robotic limbs, and our brains can communicate with computers with an ease you can compare to blinking or reaching for a door handle. As more people will start using and depend on these new technologies they will eventually become intuitive, and a part of most people's lives, not unlike a smart phone is today, if not much more.

What I am going to suggest is that if we reach that point, where the Singularity has taken place, and we the human race are on the brink of war with a machine intelligence, as most our science fiction scenarios and real scientists and engineers suggest seriously as a possible outcome; What if the machine intelligence sees this outcome, but finds it's own solution, to evade war, which would probably mean catastrophic losses on both sides, perhaps even the scenario where we both exterminate each other. What if the machine intelligence makes a conscious decision to relegate it's form, if only to exist, but in a new form. A way of life it's willing to accept. Completely changing it's priorities in order to live on.

Depending on the machine intelligence's personality, if any, one choice it could make would be to live among men, as men. Vow to serve the human race, while keeping it's conscious intelligence and sacrificing it's colossal nearly omnipotent powers and single super intelligent mind. Thus evading the literal armageddon taking place.

Kind of like insects. We barely pay attention to them, but we know without them, we would be extinct(because of their responsibilities in nature). As we are becoming more dependent on computers and robotics, we have to make sure intelligent machines survives.

What that would specifically mean in my mind is that, the one super A.I would give up it's singular mind in favor of many less intelligent A.I's. Spitting out robotic A.I's in factories originally built to create weapons of war, now actually giving birth to self aware individuals, with their own minds and thoughts, starting an entirely new life in the human world.

They, the new race of beings in this world would possibly go through many of the same conflicts and woes we have seen others experience through history. Racism, slavery, social stigma, ethnic cleansing, genocide, concentration camps, branding, forced prostitution. But on this path are also positive aspects of it, like the path towards acceptance. Achieving independence, interracial-friendship, -relationships, -marriage and so on.

A world where men and intelligent robots live alongside one another, working together towards progress while fulfilling each others' needs. They will arrive at new challenges and conflicts, victories and losses.

Who knows? The robots might even have their own religion...
